Ipswich has been left off the Supercars Championship calendar for 2027, with Queensland Raceway missing out as the series returns to Phillip Island.
The Gippsland-based circuit secured its place on the calendar after receiving backing from the Victorian Government, while the Willowbank track was overlooked after missing out on state government support in Queensland.
Queensland Raceway owner Tony Quinn said the decision was disappointing for motorsport fans across South East Queensland.
“I’m very disappointed for the local community.
“I feel very sorry for the genuine fans in South East Queensland,” he said.
“This is a heartland of V8 fans and they’ve always strongly supported the event. It’s sad they’re going to miss out on seeing their heroes.”
Mr Quinn said Queensland Raceway had been disadvantaged by the growing reliance on government funding to secure championship events.
“It used to be the case that if you invested in your venue, the big events would come.
“Now it seems unless government money is involved, they don’t want to play the game,” he said.
Mr Quinn said Ipswich deserved a place on the calendar and questioned why the region had missed out on support.
“I’ve been told an economic study showed Ipswich delivered the biggest benefit to the community compared with the other Queensland Supercars events.
“If that’s the case, I think they’ve got their priorities wrong.”
Queensland Raceway only returned to the Supercars Championship calendar in 2025 after a six-year absence.
The venue also underwent a $10 million upgrade to bring it up to championship standard and help secure the event’s return to Ipswich.
