Logan Police have charged a further 16 people with over 50 offences following investigations into an out-of-control event in the Logan area earlier this month.
Coordinated search warrants were carried out across Beenleigh, Beaudesert, Regents Park, Loganlea, and Woodridge as part of Operation Whiskey Hurricane by detectives from Logan Criminal Investigation Branch, Logan Child Protection and Investigation Unit, Logan Highway Patrol, Logan Tactical Crime Squad, Logan General Duties officers and the Rapid Action Patrol Group.
As a part of this action, a further 16 people have been charged with more than 50 offences including serious assault police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, evade police and enter premises and commit indictable offence.
Some of those charges include an 18-year-old Park Ridge man charged with one count each of possessing dangerous drugs, dangerous operation of a vehicle, participating in group activities for racing, burn out, or other hooning offence, possess utensils or pipes etc that has been used and evasion offence.
He is due to appear in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on April 22.
A 20-year-old Waterford West man has been charged with one count each of wilful damage of police property, commit public nuisance, enter premises with intent to commit indictable offence and unlawful photographing, filing or publishing for racing, burn out or other hooning offence.
He is due to appear in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on April 3.
A 28-year-old Beenleigh man has been charged with two counts of wilful damage of police property and one count each of possession of property suspected of being property which the proceeds have been converted, possessing dangerous drugs, possess utensils or pipes etc that had been used and contravening order about information necessary to access information stored electronically.
He has been refused police bail and is due to appear in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on March 19.
Operation Whiskey Hurricane was launched in response to an out-of-control event in the vicinity of Waterford West on March 9 resulting in wilful damage to three police vehicles and alleged antisocial behaviour.
Superintendent Mark Thompson said the large group of individuals engaged in alleged dangerous driving behaviours, committing multiple traffic-related offences, and placing members of the public at significant risk of injury.
“These activities are not just reckless; they disturb and endanger the lives of the community and cause significant property damage,” Superintendent Thompson said.
“This behaviour will not be tolerated, and those responsible will be held accountable.
“Queensland Police are committed to ensuring community safety, and this multidisciplinary operation sends a strong message to those individuals who feel the need to partake in, organise, promote, or film such dangerous activities.”
Superintendent Thompson said in addition to the operational support in making the arrests, the Digital Intelligence and Community Engagement (DICE) team was equally important given the large number in attendance and volume of content on social platforms.
