If you have ever found yourself belting out “Sweet Caroline” at a party, a sporting event, or just alone in your car, get ready. The good times have never seemed so good, because A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical is officially making its way to Queensland.
Fresh off a phenomenal run on Broadway and a sold-out season in Melbourne, the hit production will light up the stage at Brisbane’s QPAC Lyric Theatre starting March 20, 2027. If you want to secure your spot, you will need to act fast, general public tickets go on sale this Friday, September 4 at 9 am.
The Man, The Music, The Legend
Created in direct collaboration with Neil Diamond himself, A Beautiful Noise explores the extraordinary true story of a kid from Brooklyn who transformed into a global rock icon. With over 140 million albums sold and a catalogue of anthems like “America,” “Forever in Blue Jeans,” and “Cracklin’ Rosie,” Diamond’s life was practically made for the stage.
Australians have always had a special bond with the singer-songwriter. His legendary 1972 live album, Hot August Night, spent a staggering 29 weeks at number one in Australia, cementing his status as an honorary local.
A Deeply Personal Story
What sets this musical apart is its raw honesty. Written by four-time Academy Award nominee Anthony McCarten (Bohemian Rhapsody), the narrative is cleverly framed around Diamond’s real-life therapy sessions.
In a heartfelt letter to his fans, Diamond shared that a stage show was a daunting idea, only seriously considered after Parkinson’s disease forced him to retire from touring.
“Sitting in the theatre and watching the show has itself been therapeutic,” Diamond wrote. “Reliving some joyful and some of the painful parts of my life… in the end, coming to terms with my life and accepting it has somehow come full circle.”
Broadway Stars and Local Legends
Leading the cast is Broadway star Will Swenson, who steps into the titular role of “Neil Diamond – Then,” bringing his award-winning performance to Australian audiences for the first time.
But there is plenty of local pride to cheer for, too. The production features a stellar lineup of Queensland talent, including Brisbane-born Hannah Fredericksen in the dual roles of legendary songwriter Ellie Greenwich and Neil’s mother, Rose Diamond. She is joined by fellow Queenslanders Etuate Lutui, Jordan Malone, and Katrina Bickerton, proving that homegrown talent can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Broadway’s best.
