More than 100 people have turned out for the funeral of Ipswich grandmother Vyleen White.

The 70-year-old (pictured above) was allegedly stabbed to death by a 16-year-old boy at Town Square Redbank Plains on February 3.

Vyleen’s husband Victor and daughters Denise and Cindy as well as friends, family, politicians and members of the community paid their respects at a service at the Riverlife Baptist Church at Seventeen Mile Rocks yesterday.

Daughter Cindy Micallef told the service that there was never enough words to adequately describe mum.

“Unconditional love was always there no matter the circumstance, and with us, there were a lot of circumstances,” she said.

Ms Micallef also told the service that her mother’s death would not be in vain.

“This is a catalyst for change in our lives, in our communities, in our nation.

“Mum’s legacy will live on and we are not going to let it go; we will make sure we get justice for Mum and nothing will stop us until that happens,” she said.

It comes as the family calls on the state government to introduce ‘Vyleen’s Law’ to prevent youth crime.

The aim of the proposed law will give judges more powers to impose stricter sentences on repeat youth offenders.
