Very dangerous thunderstorm forecast for Ipswich and Logan

Severe Thunderstorm Warning – Southeast Queensland for INTENSE RAINFALL

For people in parts of Ipswich, Logan and Brisbane City Council Areas.

The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 6:35 am, a VERY DANGEROUS THUNDERSTORM likely to produce heavy, locally intense rainfall that may lead to dangerous and life-threatening flash flooding was detected near Redbank Plains.

This thunderstorm is slow moving. It is forecast to affect Greenbank by 7:05 am and Bundamba Lagoon by 7:35 am. Springfield Lakes recorded 96 mm in two hours to 6:30 am.

Jingle Downs recorded 79 mm in two hours to 6:30 am. Emergency services advise people to:

* If you have children make sure they are with you or an adult you trust. * Park your car undercover away from trees.

* Close doors and windows.

* Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger asthma attacks.

* Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes out.

* Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be identified in case they get lost.

* Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are dangerous.

* Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.

* Go inside a strong building now. Stay inside until the storm has passed.

The next warning is due to be issued by 7:35 am. A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for parts of the Southeast Coast district.
