Two men killed in plane crash in Scenic Rim

Two men have been killed in a light plane crash on the Scenic Rim.

It’s understood the aircraft came down at the entrance of the Boonah Golf Club at around Midday on Sunday.

Sadly the men, aged 69 and 82, died at the scene.

It’s understood that the flight had departed from the Boonah Airfield and was on return to the airfield when the crash occurred.

Ipswich Acting Inspector Kerry Olsen confirmed yesterday afternoon that there was a plane crash in the Dugandan area and two people lost their lives as a result of that crash.

“We have police, who are currently engaging with the families. We understand that there were two people, who were on the plane and we wish their families every possible amount of support that can be provided to them at this time”.

Acting Inspector Olsen said that they’re also aware that many members of the community may have witnessed this particular crash. 

“And our thoughts are with those persons as you can imagine,” she said

“Our first responders managed to respond to that very quickly but our members of the community could also be impacted,” Inspector Olsen said.

“We request,if possible, if anyone has any type of footage, dash-cam, home security or any other footage they may possess of planes flying in the Boonah area if they are able to provide that to Policelink.

“And if there are any witnesses to the actual crash to also contact Policelink to also come forward,” she said. 

The Forensic Crash Unit is working with Recreational Aviation Australia to determine the cause of the crash.
