Teens charged over robberies involving online marketplaces

Ipswich detectives have charged three teenage boys with more than 31 offences including multiple counts of armed robbery, stealing, unlawful use of motor vehicle and counterfeit money.

The charges relate to multiple alleged robberies that occurred across Ipswich, Logan and South Brisbane between June 18 and 25.

It will be alleged each incident involved facilitation via social media in which the boys sought to purchase mobile phones and iPads.

The teens then allegedly threatened the sellers with knives before stealing the items.

The three boys, aged 17, 15 and 15, were taken into custody this early morning, June 26, after extensive investigations across the Ipswich District as part of Operation Victor Century.

They have been refused police bail and are due to appear at the Ipswich Childrens Court at a later date.

Internet and social media sites are convenient destinations to discover, buy and sell items with people in your local community.

They can also be utilised by opportunistic offenders to sell stolen property or to commit robberies.
