A busy exit ramp on the Centenary Motorway at Springfield is to be closed off for six months as part of $6.5 million in road works.

The plan is to convert the Exit 32 ramp from two lanes into four lanes with the Springfield-Greenbank Arterial roundabout turning into a signalised intersection.

The Ipswich City Council and Queensland Government have pooled their resources for the project.

Exit 32 will close from 6pm Monday August 21.

Jordan State MP Charis Mullen said that closing off Exit 32 will help fast track construction and save money.

“I think it is challenging, I acknowledge that and will add time to a driver’s trip for the next little while.

“What it will do, having this closure, will mean months and months of savings in terms of construction time and money on these projects that will ultimately have a very important benefit to motorists in Greater Springfield and Greenbank,” she said.

The Jordan State MP is urging motorists to be patient while road works are underway during this period.

“I really do have a lot of sympathy for all the motorists around Springfield, I’m a local myself I drive those roads, I know there has been a lot of road works all of the council road works from Springfield Parkway, Springfield Greenbank Arterial and we are now asking that we are going to do a little bit more on Exit 32.

“It is going to very challenging, and I have made this very clear with Transport and Main Roads, very clear signage to ensure everyone understands what the detour looks like,” she said.

The advice from Transport and Main Roads is for motorists to use Exit 31 or Exit 33 to get around the roadworks.
