Palen Creek prisoner recaptured following alleged stolen vehicle crash

Police have charged a 38-year-old man following an incident involving an alleged stolen vehicle crash in Mount Gravatt East during the early hours of Sunday morning.

Officers were called to Tristian Way shortly after 2am where a stolen Mercedes Benz had crashed into several parked vehicles. Upon arrival police located the sedan damaged and witnesses advised the driver had fled on foot.

A short time later, officers were called to the car park of a fast-food restaurant where a man had assaulted a ride share driver, attempted to stealing his vehicle before being stopped by a member of the public.

Around 2.40am police were called to Pine Mountain Road, Mount Gravatt East where it will be alleged the same man forced his way into a number of homes, ransacking some in an attempt to steal keys and assaulted the occupant of one residence.

Officers were able to take the man into custody in the rear courtyard of Pine Mountain Road address a short time later without incident.

The Mercedes was stolen from a Bell Street address at Kangaroo Point on June 1.

It will further be alleged the man had been wanted by police after absconding from Palen Creek Correctional Centre, in the Scenic Rim area, on May 27.

The 38-year-old has been charged with four counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, three counts of enter dwelling with intent, two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, two counts of robbery, one count each of receiving tainted property, fail to remain at the scene of an accident and drive with court cancelled driver’s license.

Further charges are expected.

He is due to appear at Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow Monday, June 9.
