“Starting a hospital internship is a major and memorable milestone for any doctor,” Dr Parmar said.

“It is our privilege to help shape and support our newest junior doctors as they embark on medical careers dedicated to helping communities achieve the best possible health.”

From next week (23rd January), medical interns will join senior medical mentors to care for patients in general medicine, surgery, emergency medicine and additional elective terms in other specialised areas.

The 2023 intake also includes four rural generalist trainees.

Meanwhile, State Member for Jordan Charis Mullen, who met the new interns this week, says the new junior Doctors have been given the opportunity to gain hands on experience working at Ipswich Hospital this year.

“It will be a challenging time for the new Doctors with one of the benefits is that they see a wide range of different cases, which is really great for these trainee Doctors to have the opportunity to learn a lot in the year.

“It’s a big year, it’s probably quite a stressful but what it will provide those Doctors with the best start to their medical careers because they will be treating people in a range of different issues and symptoms”, Mrs Mullen says.
