A bushwalker bitten by a snake in the Lockyer Valley was today airlifted by the Toowoomba-based LifeFlight Surat Gas Aeromedical Service (SGAS) helicopter crew.

The man, aged in his 40s, was walking alone when he was bitten by the unidentified snake on the lower leg.

He was able to make an emergency 000 call and the crew was tasked to the scene at around 11am.

The pilot landed the chopper in a clearing near the ridge line and the aeromedical rescue crew trekked around 600 metres into the bush to locate the man.

He was treated at the scene before being stretchered out  and flown to Toowoomba Hospital in a stable condition.

Tasked by Queensland Health, the LifeFlight SGAS helicopter and crew performed this mission as part of the SGAS partners’ commitment to providing community aeromedical coverage.
