Ipswich locals have less than a week to have a say on whether the recycling program ‘Containers for Change’ should expand.
The government is considering allowing glass, wine and spirit bottles plus larger juice and flavoured milk containers as part of the 10 cent recycling scheme.
Ipswich State MP Jennifer Howard has welcomed the move:
“Ipswich people have really embraced the scheme so far and I know there’s been across the state something like six billions containers returned since we introduced it in 2018.
“I think it as they say it’s a bit of no-brainer to expand it,” she says.
Ms Howard says that Ipswich has the recycling facilities to expand the Containers for Change program.
“We have 360 refund container points across the state.
“Those actual points put about $600 million back into the pockets of Queenslanders and a lot of that does go to our charity groups as well so we have the facilities to do the work.
“We have a booming recycling industry here in Queensland, so let’s step it up,” she says.
Consultation for the program closes Monday 20th Feb at 5pm.
