Centenary Highway entry ramp reopens to traffic

The Exit 33 entry ramp onto the Centenary Highway at Springfield Central is now open to traffic following work by the Department of Transport and Main Roads to clear debris from the road and stabilise the embankment.

Both the entry and the exit ramps adjacent to Sinnathamby Boulevard were closed in January 2025 following two consecutive rain events and Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred in March 2025.

A significant amount of earth slipped own the slop, with TMR removing more than 125,000 cubic meters of earth, the equivalent of emptying 50 Olympic size swimming pools.

The exit ramp reopened to traffic on April 8, 2025, while works to reopen the Centenary Highway westbound entry ramp (outbound from Springfield Central) required further assessment and design at that time.

Works progressed ahead of schedule, with the entry ramp reopening at 4:10am Wednesday – months earlier than previously anticipated.

Minor works are still required to install fencing however these can be completed with minimal impact to traffic and are due to be completed by late July.

Minister for Transport and Main Roads Brent Mickelberg said it is a welcome relief to local motorists.

“I know this is an important link for commuters and for accessing local businesses,” he says.

“Reopening this ramp ahead of schedule is a testament to the hard work of the crews and the patience of the community.”
