Ipswich Historical Society 25 years at Cooneana

Ipswich Historical Society has been at Cooneana Heritage Centre for 25 years and we are having a celebration on Saturday 10 May from 10am to 2pm. This will also be the official unveiling of Banjo, a new display put together by our very talented Mr Peter (Ned) Kelly. Banjo is a horse constructed of metal rods – the size of a real horse of about 16 hands.

There has been ongoing development of the site since the Ipswich Historical Society gained access in the year 2000 and the Society has also grown significantly in this time. Information and photos demonstrating the ways in which Council and the Society have worked together to create this beautiful site will be available. Ipswich Historical Society and the associated groups at Cooneana Heritage Centre are devoted to the preservation of Ipswich history and the traditional skills that have contributed so much to the city.

Naturally, we will be asking Mr Kelly to tell us why Banjo has his name – a very interesting family story.
Visitors will be able to share some lunch during which we will be cutting a celebratory cake.
We will be welcoming our Division 3 Councillors, Marnie Doyle and Andrew Antoniolli, Councillor Pye Augustine, Chair of the Economic Development and Cultural Committee, Lance McCallum MP and we have invited Mayor Teresa Harding and Shayne Neumann MP. Our invited visitors may say a few words about their involvement with the Society and Cooneana Heritage Centre.

Former members of the Society who have stories of their own involvement with Cooneana Heritage Centre are encouraged to join us.

Ipswich Historical Society is proud of the achievements attained over the last quarter century and invite the community to come along and celebrate with us.
