Battle of 109th Anniversary Battle of Fromelles Commemorative Service
On the 19th July 2025 it marks the 109th anniversary of the commemoration of the Battle of Fromelles, a deeply significant event in Australia’s military history. Fought on 19 July 1916, it was the first major engagement involving Australian troops on the Western Front — and remains one of the most devastating days for Australia in wartime. In less than 24 hours, the Australian Imperial Force suffered over 5,500 casualties, with many young men lost in a battle that brought home the brutal realities of the First World War.
On this anniversary, we remember the courage, sacrifice, and enduring spirit of those Australians who fought and fell at Fromelles. Their legacy continues to shape our national identity and commitment to honouring those who serve.
Lest we forget.
