Tom Cruise as You’ve Never Seen Him: The Digger Trailer Is Pure Chaos

Forget everything you know about Tom Cruise. The man who has spent decades jumping off cliffs and dangling from planes has officially traded his tuxedo for a pot belly, a tragic comb-over, and an accent thicker than molasses. The first trailer for Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s Digger has arrived, and it is safe to say that nobody was prepared for this.

Cruise stars as Digger Rockwell, an oil tycoon who is, quite frankly, a walking disaster. In a twist of dark comedy, Rockwell is the “most powerful man in the world” who accidentally triggers a global ecological catastrophe. Instead of a typical hero’s journey, we get a frantic, self-absorbed scramble as Rockwell tries to convince the world he is its saviou, before his own mess destroys everything.

The transformation is genuinely amazing. Watching the action icon sport thinning hair, an unconvincing combover, and a penchant for crass jokes is both hilarious and bizarre. It’s the most unrecognizable he has looked since his iconic turn as Les Grossman in Tropic Thunder. The trailer is a whirlwind of absurdist humor, featuring Rockwell worrying more about his elderly cat than the glacier he’s just shifted in Greenland.

Directed by four-time Oscar winner Alejandro G. Iñárritu, the film is a departure from his usual heavy-hitting dramas. With a $125 million budget and a supporting cast that includes John Goodman, Sandra Hüller, and Jesse Plemons, this is high-concept satire at its most ambitious. Shot in 35mm VistaVision, it looks visually stunning, even while the plot spirals into nuclear-level madness.

If you want to see an action legend lean into pure, unhinged comedy, pop this on your movie wishlist. Digger hits cinemas on October 2, 2026.
