Motor racing fans have packed out Ipswich’s CBD to mark the return of the 2025 Supercars 440 championship in the city.

All 26 drivers competing in the Sprint Cup happily posed for selfies and signed autographs with fans in the Nicholas Street Precinct last night.

There was also a chance for fans to meet some of the motorcycle champions with a round of the Australian Superbike Championships to be held at the track this weekend.

Repco Supercars spokesperson Paul Glover said that it was a really good lead up to the big event.

“It’s been a few years in the making to get us back in, so we’re excited! The fans last night, it was awesome to get out there. The mayor was there, the drivers and then we got into a session — one of the biggest ones we’ve had in a long time, and it was great,” he told River 949’s Marnie and Campo.

“There were some familiar faces who’ve grown up a little bit,” he said.

“We had all the Supercar drivers out there and it was just a great way to start the event and can’t wait to get into it today”.

Repco Supercars spokesperson Paul Glover said that the drivers will get stuck in for their first practice session at Queensland Raceway despite the wet conditions.

“Yeah it will make it spicy for the fans”, he said.

“If you’ve got a favourite or you’ve got a least favourite then you never know what’s going to happen on the ‘paperclip'”.

“It’s a very technical little course and in these Gen 3 cars, we’ve never actually rated them here,” he said.

“So, anything could happen and with a bit of slick, we could see some carnage, but we’ll see what happens,” he said.

Big names such as Chaz Mostert, Cam Waters, Brody Kostecky and Will Brown will be competing in the championships in Ipswich.
