Goodna man charged with alleged drug and weapons offences

Police have charged a 23-year-old man with drug and weapon offences following the search of a vehicle at Goodna last night, June 26.

Around 11.40pm officers intercepted a 2015 Ford Falcon utility travelling along Bellevue Road.

While speaking with the driver, officers detected a suspicious odour which led to a subsequent search of the vehicle.

It is alleged while searching the vehicle officers located a backpack containing 3.3 grams of methylamphetamine, several containers of cannabis along with a personal manufactured firearm and a bag containing ammunition.

A 23-year-old man from Springfield man has been charged with five offences including two counts of possessing dangerous drugs and one count each of unlawful possession of weapons, authority required to possess explosives and unlicenced driving.

He is due to appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court today.

Acting Detective Inspector Steven Williamson said personal manufactured firearms are of significant concern to police due to the potential to impact on community safety.

“These weapons are dangerous, and we are committed in ensuring they are removed from our community.
