Man charged over knife throwing incident

A man has been charged after allegedly throwing a knife at another man at Newcastle.

Police say the 23-year-old was involved in an altercation with another man, 24, outside a cafe on Saturday when he threw a knife at him, narrowly missing.

He was apprehended by by-standers before he was arrested and charged with two counts of common assault, wielding a knife in a public place and affray.

He is expected to face Newcastle Local Court on Sunday.
