Another claim of UBER assault on female passenger

A Logan City ride share driver's been charged - accused of holding a female passenger in his car against her will in Brisbane.

Police allege the 45 year old man refused to let the 25 year old woman - who had been using the service to get to a bar in Fortitude Valley on Saturday night - out of his car.

He's then accused of driving for more than an hour to South Brisbane via the Clem 7 tunnel, with the driver pulling over on the M1 only after the woman opened a car door and threatened to jump out.

The man has been charged with deprivation of liberty.

It's the third alleged assault on a female passenger in Brisbane in a month.

Last month a 47-year-old Samoan man was charged with sexual assaulting a female passenger while using the ride-sharing service in Brisbane that week.

He was later charged with raping a teenager woman in September 2015 while operating as an Uber driver in Ipswich.

And a 37-year-old man, who moved to Australia from the United Kingdom, was charged with raping a 16-year-old girl he allegedly picked up on July 7.

It is alleged the man turned off the Uber app before driving to an isolated location and sexually assaulting the teenager, who had gone to the shops to buy ice cream.

The latest incident has sparked calls on Social Media for the service to be declared illegal - although others have pointed to similar allegations against licenced taxi-drivers.
