Winning the Fire Ant war

Residents in the Lockyer Valley, Scenic Rim and parts of Ipswich are urged to be on the lookout for any remaining fire ants, after three years of intensive treatment, by the National Red Imported  Fire Ant Eradication Program.

Recent changes to fire ant biosecurity zones at the end of May, should further protect areas from reinfestation.

Program General Manager Graeme Dudgeon said eradicating fire ants is no easy feat, but Australia is the closest any country has come to success.

You can report suspicious ants at daf.qld.gov.au/fire ants or call 13 25 23.
