Locals urged to stay up-to-date with meningococcal jab

Following a recent case of Meningococcal on the Darling Downs, health officials are urging residents to ensure they're vaccinated for the potentially deadly illness.

The Darling Downs Hospital and Health Service confirmed a patient was recently admitted to hospital, after being diagnosed with the disease, but has since recovered.

The service advises those who are feeling unwell to seek medical advice as soon as possible, despite the current Covid-19 restrictions, not to ignore any life threatening symptoms, and to make sure their Meningococcal inoculations are up-to-date.

The uncommon sickness typically affects very young children and teenagers, and can be fatal.
