Storm + dry lightning - no rain = new fire threat...not good!

Crews battling the state's bushfires are bracing for a renewed threat, with possible dry-lightning storms forecast to hit Southern Queensland today.

Isolated storms are predicted to develop across the Darling Downs and the state's South East from this afternoon, bringing the risk of lightning strikes igniting new fires.

Strong and gusty winds are also expected to bring hot, dry conditions across the Downs and Granite Belt today, with the potential to fan existing blazes.
