Teen charged over bashing of elderly man in Toowoomba

Darling Downs detectives investigating the alleged robbery of a man in Toowoomba yesterday afternoon have charged a man with grievous bodily harm.

It will be alleged a 75-year-old North Toowoomba man was waiting at a taxi-rank on Margaret Street at around 5pm on Monday, February 6 when he was pushed from behind by a man, causing him to fall to the ground before his backpack was stolen.

The man was transported to hospital with serious head injuries.

Polair and local police tracked an alleged stolen vehicle with the car intercepted on Hermitage Road at around 8.40pm following an earlier successful sting by a tyre deflation device.

The two occupants fled on foot but were quickly taken into custody hiding in bushland by a dog squad.

An 18-year-old Wilsonton man has been charged with one count each of grievous bodily harm, robbery using personal violence, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and enter dwelling and commit. He has been denied police bail and is due to appear in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court today (February 7).

A 16-year-old local boy has been denied police bail and is due to appear in the Toowoomba Childrens Court on a charge of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

The vehicle had allegedly been stolen from a Dalby home overnight February 3-4.
