The group of volunteers and one staff member are expected to be deployed to the hardest hit areas including Ingham and the black zone of Townsville.

SES Regional Director for South-East region Scott Revell said that they will be able to tackle the challenges that the wild weather throws at them.

“We have a myriad of qualifications and experience that range from chainsaw operation, working safety at heights and flood boat operators – anything within that area.

“We can also be doing door-knocking, supporting other emergency services in relation to evacuation centres as well as incident management,” he said.

Mr Revell said that a number of  volunteers come from the Somerset and  Ipswich area, who have been very much involved in local disasters as well as a number of events that have occurred across the state.

“I’m really grateful that I’ve got this amount of experience to help the community,” he said.

Floodwaters will continue to rise across North Queensland today with areas around Ingham and Townsville recording more than a metre of rain since Saturday.
