Ipswich born-and-raised community volunteer Georgia Toft has been named as the LNP’s candidate for the October state election.
It follows the shock retirement of sitting Ipswich West State MP Darren Zanow, who’s stepping down from the role after being diagnosed with Microvascular Ischemic disease, which commonly leads to early onset of dementia.
Ms Toft has deep roots in the Ipswich West community including as a member of the Ipswich Show Society Board and Rotary Club of Ipswich City, work as an assistant coach at North Tigers Juniors Rugby League and as an alumnus of West Moreton Anglican College.
After running Darren Zanow’s electorate office since the day he was elected, Georgia also deeply understands the challenges faced by the Ipswich West community, who have been neglected by the Palaszczuk/Miles Government.
Ms Toft said she was passionate about the region and continuing the work started by Darren Zanow in April to restore a voice to the people of Ipswich West after being taken for granted by Labor.
“Labor has neglected the Ipswich Region for too long and as a result youth crime is out of control, health wait times are far too long and road infrastructure hasn’t kept up with our growing region,” Ms Toft said.
“Our community sent a strong message in March that time’s up for Labor, it’s clear they can’t be trusted on the big issues like crime, housing, health and cost of living.
“Working and volunteering in our community I have seen the impacts of a decade-old bad Labor Government, with people living in fear because of the Youth Crime Crisis they created and people losing their lives in the Health Crisis.
“Growing up on a farm I understand every dollar matters and many in our community are making tough decisions to pay the ever-increasing bills, time’s up for Labor and I’m fighting for change.”
