Hundreds of millimetres of rain have fallen overnight with many locals waking up to a number of flood alerts.
Residents in and around Laidley had been told to move to higher ground and as of 7am Monday that escalated to “take safe shelter now”.
Laidley Mayor Chris Wilson told River 949 this morning that Laidley Creek has now started rising with parts of the township about to go under.
He says at this stage it is hard to tell levels as the rain is still bucketing down but, streets and backyards, which were inundated in 2022, could face it again.
Mayor Wilson says as people begin the commute this morning, they need to be aware that the Warrego Highway will be cut off by mid-morning bringing complication to East West traffic.
At this, he says, he doesn’t want people taking alter routes as the council hasn’t been able to assess the other roads in and around Laidley.
Evacuation Centre is currently open at Laidley State High School.
Severe thunderstorms are also likely.
