In a statement, Mr Madden cited his concerns about the future direction of Ipswich City Council among his motivations for running for council.

Funding allocations and uncompleted projects such as the North Ipswich Reserve and Norman Street Bridge were also among the issues.

Meanwhile, Queensland Premier Steven Miles has since announced March 16 as the date for the Ipswich West by-election, which is on the same date as the local government elections.

It’s understood the Labor party has selected Wendy Bourne to run for the seat.

The state election won’t be held until October.
