An Ipswich advanced care paramedic has been recognised on the 2022 Australia Day Honours List for his service to the community.
Mark Nugent (pictured above), who’s a Senior Operations Supervisor at Ipswich, has been awarded the Ambulance Service Medal for his 33 years of service.
The award, which is handed out on Australia Day each year, recognises distinguished and outstanding service by the men and women of the nation’s ambulance organisations.
Mr Nugent said he was shocked and surprised to receive such an award given the circumstances and the great number of people who work for his organisation .
“What drives me is helping the community!”
“I do what I do so the staff are catered for and they can then deliver the best patient care. This is what we stand for!”
Mr Nugent, who now specialises in emergency management and has also worked as an ambulance officer and intensive and critical care paramedic since 1989, said that he has had memorable experiences in his career.
“Yeah I’ve had a number of happy ones and a number of sad ones unfortunately,”he said.
“Look I’ve had one instance where a young patient had stopped breathing and his heart had stopped having a cardiac arrest at only 10 week old”.
“We had a successful resuscitation with that young one and they did have a successful outcome but they still have some medical issues relating to that medical event they had,” Mr Nugent said.
Ipswich based Senior Operations Supervisor Mark Nugent is one of three in Queensland to be awarded the Ambulance Service Medal.
The others are Cairns based Local-area Assessment Referral Unit Officer Nadine Bond and Magnetic Island Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OIC) Kerry Dillon.
