Ipswich is today mourning the loss of a young pilot, who’s the son of a former police officer, and his wife and unborn child in a plane crash in North Queensland.

Stockman Rhiley Kuhrt and his wife Maree (pictured above) were killed when the Piper Cherokee they were in came down in rugged mountainous terrain in the Clarke Ranges — west of Proserpine.

Rescue crews will work to get to the crash site today — it’s expected to take several days.

Bad weather is possibly the cause of the crash but the Air Transport Safety Bureau is investigating.

Rhiley’s father Senior Sergeant Lindsay Kuhrt was based at Rosewood Police Station for 18 years before leaving in 2021.
