Ipswich comes out to celebrate 150th Show Anniversary

Ipswich show is on today – and it’s a year with a difference as the SWITCH celebrates its 150th Anniversary. 

It’s typical pomp and celebrity with the Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles, the state’s Premier Annastacia Palaszcuk and Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding turning out for the official opening this morning; followed by a flypast of a C27 J Spartan Aircraft out of RAAF Base Amberley.

Deputy PM Richard Marles says the show is a significant occasion.

 “Back in 1873 that there were farmers in this region coming to this very spot showing off the best of their produce, the best of their agriculture doing exactly what farmers will be doing over the course of the next three days”

“There’s a huge heritage associated with that and with that comes an enormous amount of proud” he says.

Apart from the VIP’s, thousands of people are expected to flock to the show over the next three days.

Highlights will include: Airtime Freestyle Motocross Team, Australia’s only human cannonball, Highwire Motorcycle, Wheel of Death, Rooftop Express Spectacular, Hot Wheels Stunt Team, Monster Truck, Strongman Competition, Wildlife Shows and so much more.

There will also be cattle exhibits, woodchip, side show alley and rides.
