A former Ipswich councillor, who was left with life threatening injuries following a crash at Thagoona, remains in hospital five weeks after the accident.
David Pahlke was rushed to Ipswich General Hospital after his white Mini Cooper collided with a Ford Ranger ute on Thagoona-Haigslea Road on Friday July 26.
He has since undergone surgery due to multiple fractures to his foot, leg, knee, ribs and arm.
Mr Pahlke said that recovery has been slow.
“It has been long and slow, I’ve been here for about five weeks now and there’s a couple of weeks yet — still a long way to recover.
“My whole right side, broken bones in my foot, up round my knees and my thighs.
“I had a plate put in my knee, fractured ribs, fractured arm — It is quite enormous,” he said.
Former Ipswich councillor David Pahlke is also calling on local and state governments to have the notoriously dangerous intersection fixed.
“There have been accidents at that intersection on Thagoona Haigslea Road for many years
“I’ve already lodged something with the council and local councillor Jim Madden is looking at it.
“It really needs a roundabout but that won’t happen as it is a state government road.
“Walloon needs a stop sign not a give way sign and much more line marking,” Mr Pahlke said.
Mr Pahlke wanted to thank the first responders – Fire Brigade, Ambulance and Police – for helping to save his life.
David Pahlke has since been moved to St. Andrews Hospital Ipswich to continue his recovery and begin months of rehabilitation.
