Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has welcomed debate over a proposal to establish a new dump in Ipswich.
The application to turn an old coal mine at New Chum into a landfill and waste transfer facility has received much community outrage since it was introduced last month.
The Premier, who attended a public meeting on the issue last night, told River 949's Marnie and Campo this morning that it is in council's hands.
"I welcomed the public debate.. essentially this issue is before council .. so council will have to take the necessary steps and do full public consultation.
So, I said to people there last night.. please put forward any issues or concerns you have to the council... participate.. you know we live in a democracy.. we shouldn't take it for granted.. put your views forward".
