Tradies stop rampaging driver in Brisbane

Two Brisbane tradies have chased and tackled an alleged car thief who fled after crashing into a string of parked vehicles because it was "the natural thing to do".

Reece Brown was working at inner-city Woolloongabba on Wednesday when he saw a man take off after crashing the car.

He and his work mate gave chase, eventually catching and detaining him at a building site until police arrived.

Mr Brown told Nine it was "the natural thing to do" to run after the guy, even though it was a bit of a struggle.

"Mate, I almost fell flat on my face. It's been a while since I've done a bit of running," he said.

"But you know, once I got my composure, I was straight on him again."

Police filmed the 21-year-old driver from a helicopter as he drove erratically across the city at speeds of more than 100 km'h.

Vision showed the driver veering onto the wrong side and running red lights before making his way into the Clem7 tunnel.

The car, which was allegedly stolen from a New Farm house on Tuesday, came to a screeching halt in Woolloongabba after it crashed into parked cars.

A 52-year-old woman trapped inside one of the vehicles was treated for minor injuries.

Police were alerted to the car's location by its owner and they used an app to track an iPad that was inside the vehicle.

The driver will appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Thursday.
